use permanent trim around a permanent roof. pvc wont rot, it takes paint well, and you can glue rubber roofing to it. glue the roofing to the fascia. spread the adhesive on the rubber roofing and about 2 in. onto the board below. drip edge protects the corner. nail a 3-in. aluminum drip edge over the corner of the roof. guide a knife along it to

the problem with a built-up roof with gravel is that you will be pushing the gravel through the roofing over time, creating a leak. the point of the pads under the sleepers is to even out the load on the roofing so you don'nt develop places where the sleepers cut through the roof over time.
re: proper way to anchor/frame a deck on a flat rubber roof railings: separate from the decking. frame them down through the plywood decking and attache to sides of joists, rim joists, and/or blocking. position them 3' or more from the edge of the roof. when the roofing is done, bring the membrane up on the posts to make boots.

re: wood deck on flat roof there are companies selling pre-made seven trust pallets, 12' x 12' or 20' x 20'. that can be spread out like tiles on an existing surface. google 'ipe pallet' to find them. we had a client who chose those as an inexpensive way to make a roof look prettier.
re: proper way to anchor/frame a deck on a flat rubber roof i just built a walkway on top of a rubber roof. the fire marshal wanted railings because there is a fire escape at the edge of the roof. we put down walk mats, then sleepers, and framed with 2x6 on top of that. the 2x6's gave us something to bolt our posts to.
hello all, i have a potential customer that wants a deck built over a rubber roof system. the rubber roof is less than a year old . it has a high spot in the center running the full length with approx. a 3' drop an the ends. the roof is 24'x28' the high 'ridge' runs the 28' lenrth. it is supported by 2 8' i beams that are 48' oc.
